Wish you were here!

Ah! Sunday morning! I don't usually wake up early on Sunday's, but I did today. I am going back to work tomorrow after a two week break, and I wanted to get back into the habit of waking up early.

I jumped into the shower, and then, with not much to do, I listened to some music. Staring at the ceiling, thinking about all kinds of things, I felt calm and relaxed.

My Mom called about noon and asked if I fancied the idea of going out for a bite of lunch. Why not! It's a glorious, sunny day, and we were going to one of the restaurants by the sea. Sounded ideal!

I got into the car and off we went! We found a little "taverna" by the beach, overlooking the sea, and the ruins of the ancient city walls. Wonderful! Just think that thousands of years back, other Greeks would have been doing the exact same thing. I find it fascinating!

The food was great, too, and pretty reasonably priced (which was a surprise, since we are in the tourist season). Mouth watering delicacies like grilled calamari, octopus, and fish. Accompanied of course by the inevitable Greek salad and greens. Mmmmmmmm.....bloody Greeks! We can cook some seafood dishes!

It was very relaxing eating there, staring at the inviting blue of the sea-blue and glittering like a mirror-and watching the ships go by. The little joys of life, I guess.

It was a good closing for my two weeks of freedom, before returning to the daily grindstone tomorrow.

I hope you all enjoyed your weekends as much as I did!

Glad you had such a great last day of your break! And yes, the Greeks can cook fish like nobody's business!! Elias Corner, a restaurant two blocks from my house doesn't have a menu, just fresh fish. You tell your waitress what kind of fish you want, and wait for the glorious beastie to arrive to your table. Some wine, bread and tzatziki sauce and salad before hand, coffee and ouzo after. HEAVEN.

My little family of 3 got up early too and went to the beach. My 11 year old little Greek god got all blonde and brown.

jyankee- You're welcome to visit any time! Yes we do accept charges! :)

ting-This place is well worth visiting! It's the living here permanantly part I'm not sure about! :)

wolfgang-It will be nice to have you!

loz- It was quite nice actually! Back to work was not a good experience however.

Amel, Michelle- perhaps your weekends were rainy, but there's other things of beauty in your respective countries to compensate for the wheather!

rp-Although it's strange to have ouzo at the end of the meal, I know exactly what you mean! BTW you're weekend sounds like fun!

mother hen- It was a good day out, but as they say goo things don't last! Guess what my 1st day back to work was like!

When during a meal, then, would one drink Ouzo? The beginning?

How's your heat wave? We are beginning a new one here in NY...90 degrees at 1pm, and climbing. But a dry heat today, thank God.

I'm so jealous, Epi. How amazing it must be to really take in days like those, where beauty is simply ...everywhere!

rp-Ouzo is usually drunk (if it's me, sparingly)as an aperitif along with a few "meze". Getting drunk on it is a bummer, since you don't realise it until you try to move. You'll find your legs are not following your body, eventhough you may feel sober! (It's a good laugh for the others, when that happens!) :)
BTW - The ehatwave is gone, at least for now. Hang in there!!!

It was trully nice hollygl! It's one of those small things that make life worth living!

I agree less is more with Ouzo. Would never make a night of it!! My husband calls it liquid LSD. What are meze? appetizers?

By the way, a good sangria will do that to you too, as it contains brandy and triplesec.

Epi, one day I have got to visit Greece! You should be running the board of tourism or something.

rp -"meze" is the small dishes that come before the main dish. (You can have a variety of meze instead of a main dish, as well.

Yeah David! Minister of tourism Epi! Sounds good! :)
